A beautifully renovated boardwalk spans the mid-beach areas. Lummus Park (Ocean Drive, between 5th and 13th Street.) is great for swimming, with walking trails. North Shore Open Space Park (from 79th to 87th Street) boasts walking trails, a nature center, fishing, a bike path, a boardwalk, and pavilions.

For surfing and picnicking we suggest Haulover Park (10800 Collins Avenue), a mile-and-a-half stretch nestled between the Intracoastal Waterway and Atlantic, or Crandon Park (4000 Crandon Boulevard) that offers a romantic two-mile lagoon-style beach with a winding promenade and multiple picnic areas.
